Lot 101 1918-1920 Beistle Pennant Decoration
When I first saw this pennant when cataloging a collection I purchased, I thought it was a hat. It isn’t. This is a truly early party decoration that Beistle produced featuring what we know now as their early iconography: crossed brooms, the ghost with top knots and bare feet, a vaporous witch, ears of corn, a JOL, a rat, a scared cat and a weird, striped bug. Even my early Beistle catalogs don’t show this pennant. I suspect this was made for a single season. There is a length of string attached to either side of the pennant’s top interior. The pennant is made from a thin paper stock. There is one pinhole at the bottom of the pennant. There are no tears! The pennant measures ~13.5” high by ~11.5” across. Prior to its acquisition, I had never seen it before. I suspect that few exist.
