Lot 30                1920s Tin Litho Shaker
This shaker is a mystery. Prior to its acquisition in a large collection out of southern California, I had never seen it before. The ends have the same Dennison witch face and cats that were used in a well-known Kirchhof tambourine, but the rest of the imagery appears to be more primitive than typical Kirchhof imagery. My guess is that the mystery manufacturer used the Dennison art without license, so the entire noisemaker is an unsanctioned rogue. This tin litho shaker is sizable. It measures ~9” high by ~3.25” across by ~3” deep. The handle is painted black wood. A prior owner had a black ribbon at the point where the wood handle meets the noisemaker. I have trimmed as much of this away as I could but small tufts remain.
