Lot 41                Late 1940s German Plaster Devil Figural
After WWII, the Germans produced a small number of their older designs in plaster rather than composition. This didn’t last more than a season or two. I feel this item was produced circa 1948-1949. The devil measures ~3.75” high by ~2” across. Plaster is a fragile medium. Notice the small chip at one of the elbows. This was present at the factory when the two-tone painting step was completed. Plaster is also a medium that doesn’t lend itself to as smooth a finish as composition. You can see this reality at places on the devil. Again, this isn’t a condition issue, merely an artifact of the chosen medium. Perhaps counterintuitively, this form of the devil figural is actually quite a bit rarer than ones made with composition.
