Lot 74                  1950s Slot and Tab Smiling & Scowling JOL Lantern (BOOK ITEM)
This pleasing lantern was produced during the early 1950s by a manufacturer unknown to me. It has a slot and tab construction and two different faces – one smiling and one scowling. The colors are strong and vibrant. The lantern seems never to have been used as there is no wax in or wear to the interior. The inserts are original. There is one closed tear to one eye on the smiling side. The lantern measures ~5.25” high by ~6.5” across by ~3” deep. This is the very item photographed for my reference book, appearing on page 31 of the third edition. This entered the collection on February 22, 1991. The buyer will receive a handwritten note on my personal Halloween stationery attesting to this provenance.
