Lot 9 Late 1940s Spook Kat Luminous Party Game (BOOK ITEM)
This enveloped game was produced by the American Novelty Company of Omaha, Nebraska, during the late 1940s. As stated on page 25, the firm was in business only from 1943 through 1950. The game consisted only of a paper board showing a fierce cat, plus 12 tails that once glowed in the dark. Only 6 tails survive. The paper board has an unfortunate amount of deeply yellowed tape present. The board has also been trimmed at one side. It measures ~18.5” high by ~19” across. The envelope is complete with its flap, but there is a ~2.25” tear at the top of the envelope under the flap that has been “repaired” with tape. This is the very item photographed for my reference books. It appears on page 25 of the third edition. This entered the collection on June 17, 1995. The buyer will receive a handwritten note on my personal Halloween stationery attesting to this provenance.
