Lot 94 1910s Running Girl with JOL Mechanical Decoration (BOOK ITEM)
This mechanical decoration was produced by a manufacturer unknown to me during the 1910s. It depicts a girl sporting a red cap and clutching a rather non-plussed JOL as she runs along. The wheel at the back has five identically-shod feet giving the illusion of movement as the girl scurries forth. This decoration measures ~8.25” high by ~4.5” across. There is a sentiment written on the reverse in pencil to Donald from Aunt Bertha. There is wear along the border where the hat’s tuft protrudes from the hat. Even so, it is firmly attached. This decoration is one of a set of four, all shown on page 284. This is the very item photographed for my reference books and appearing on page 284 of the third edition. This entered the collection on January 30, 2008. The buyer will receive a handwritten note on my personal Halloween stationery attesting to this provenance.
