Vintage Antique Die Cut Halloween Tutu Beistle Honeycomb Sunflower

This Beistle tally sold for a strong price considering the noticeable color loss to the one side. Beistle sold this design from 1930-1931. Another design comprises the set. Interestingly, that other design appears far less frequently, one of the many mysteries about the secondary marketplace for vintage Halloween. Look on page 223 for the other design.

VINTAGE 1930's Gibson HALLOWEEN flying OWLS, BLACK CAT Flowers Party Tally Card

It’s great to see this colorful tally produced by Gibson during the 1920s listed on eBay - especially by such a fine seller. I recently posted the matching nut cup and place card to this design on my Acquisitions section of the site. The major holiday paper manufacturers typically issued their designs in four pieces: invitation, tally, place card and nut cup.

04/02 Update: This great tally sold for $39.88.

Vintage Rare Halloween Beistle Sunflower Tally Card

It is great to see one of the very elusive Beistle tutu tallies being offered, especially by this fine seller. Beistle produced two tutu tally designs in 1930-1931 and sold them as a set. Oddly, this is the one that surfaces more regularly than the other. You can see both designs by turning to page 223.

Vintage 1929-1930 DENNISON Black Cat Mechanical Tally Card

This cat head mechanical tally first appeared in Dennison's 1928 Price List pamphlet. Dennison produced three designs of what they marketed as "novelty tallies." The cat head and the JOL are somewhat less involved designs compared to the third one - a witch inside a flaming cauldron. All are hard-to-find in working condition. You can see all three designs on page 258.

Rare set Beistle Tally Bridge Halloween Ephemera 9 complete Cards w/original Box

This was an interesting mixed lot. The somewhat battered box and its incomplete contents (5 of the 10 tallies that would complete the set) were randomly paired with 4 tallies, two of which I haven't seen before. The four tallies were made by an unknown manufacturer and are more interesting than the Beistle tallies. Beistle's output was typically crafted with care and intricately detailed, however, these tallies, made for many seasons, don't fall into those categories. I watched this lot with interest, wondering what price it would fetch. I feel the ending price was right on, surely helped by the two not-seen-before specimens.

Vintage Halloween Owl, Black Cat and Pumpkins Bridge Tally - Hallmark - HTF!

The seller's description of this tally as being hard-to-find is a welcome understatement. I love paper and wasn't able to acquire one of these until recently. As tallies go, this is royalty. It is large, very colorful and a rare example of Hallmark producing an exquisite Halloween item. Because of the many pointed edges on this masterpiece, to find one in near-perfect condition or better is challenging. I would expect that this design gem would bring a price several multiples of the opening.

07/01 Update: This brought $304.88, a perfectly ridiculous price driven to the never-to-be-repeated stratosphere by two determined, if not addled, bidders.

Vtg 1920s Bridge Card Game Tally, Halloween Mechanical Black Cat #62

I recently bought an enormous private collection, much of it for resale, and this very hard-to-find Dennison black cat tally was one of the 25 or so pieces I kept for the collection. Prior to acquiring it, I had not seen one before, but had seen it referenced in one of the early 1930s Dennison publications. These were sold singly in stationary shops. If you are a Dennison completist, like me, you'll want this rare tally.

10/29 Update: This sold for a strong $34.39.

Vintage Beistle Halloween Bridge Tally, Scarecrow Woman, Flip Skirt Diamond Mark

This is an exceedingly rare item, made by Beistle only from 1929-1931. (The seller has misread the date pencilled on its reverse as 1924, when it is actually 1929.) This is only the second time I've ever seen this offered for sale. As it write on page 222, "The apron flips up to reveal the scoring area. (There is no sexual connotation to the last sentence.)" This is one of a pair, the other being a scarecrow man. The mate is also shown on page 222.

VINTAGE HALLOWEEN MECHANICAL DIECUT TALLY~1920's~PROBABLY WHITNEY

This mechanical tally is such a cool item! The kinds of things produced in those long-past decades really had ingenuity. The maker is harder to pin down. Whitney seldom marked anything beyond their postcards, so the tip of the hat goes to that firm, out of business in the early 1940s, to be the maker. However, it could be from another manufacturer like Volland, Henderson Line, Rustcraft, etc. Both Beistle and Dennison can be eliminated, as can be Gibson. However, bottom line is that this is a great item that will strengthen any collection of tallies. I've never been able to locate one for the collection, evidenced by the one in my third edition coming from the inestimable Bobbie Lasky collection. (Bobbie is one of a handful of top-tier Halloween collectors in the United States.)
